Today I came to work like I do every day, thinking it was just an ordinary day. Then, while logging on to the internet I discovered that today is National Spouses Day. Call me ignorant, but I had no idea that there was such a thing. I thought that's what Valentine's Day was for.
I was intrigued. I wanted to know how long National Spouses Day had been in existence. Why hadn't I ever heard of it? I began researching on-line to find answers to my questions. What I found is that no one really knows who created this unofficial holiday but apparently it began around 1984 but didn't gain popularity until around the 2000's. Who knew?
The difference between Valentine's Day and National Spouses Day is that NSD isn't about exchanging gifts. It's more about showing appreciation to the one you married by spending quality time with your husband or wife or expressing how much you love him/her.
I called my husband just before sitting down to write this blog post. I expressed to him how much I appreciate all that he does for me. I chose very well. 23 years of marriage, lots of ups and downs, but life is good. We're good and I'm so glad that we have each other to lean on.
